Overview/Background:

The fourth annual Snowflakes on Market Street program organized by the Market Street Association will feature the lighting of giant illuminated snowflakes on Market Street's signature "Path of Gold" light poles from Nov. 17 through mid January.

The public is welcome to attend the "Snowflakes on Market" lighting ceremony on Nov. 17 at 6:30 p.m. in front of the cable car turn-around at Powell and Market streets.  The Path of Gold lights that run the length of Market St. from Steuart to Castro streets were originally installed in 1916 and cast a distinctive amber glow on one of the city's main thoroughfares. This is the fourth phase of the efforts to decorate all 232 Path of Gold lampposts. This year 20 new snowflakes were added bringing the total to 162 on 81 lampposts stretching from Second Street to Seventh Street. Additional snowflakes are to be added in years to come.

Supporting sponsors will be recognized on banners at the cable car turn-around at Powell and Market streets, as well as during the lighting ceremony presided over by Mayor Lee and City officials.

Supporting sponsors include:  Bloomingdale’s; Central Market Community Benefit District; Flood Building; Forest City Development; Four Seasons Hotel; SF Recology; Market Street Association; McKesson; Nordstrom; North of Market/Tenderloin Community Benefit District; Palace Hotel; PG&E; Ross Dress for Less; San Francisco Community Challenge Grant; ; Seligman Western Enterprises; SHN Theaters; Shorenstein Company LP; Westfield San Francisco Centre; Yerba Buena Community Benefit District .

The Market Street Association is working in collaboration with other civic organizations and the City of San Francisco to create "Snowflakes on Market."
